Recurrent ingrown toenail can be very frustrating. You did what your doctor told you and were taking antibiotics, maintaining wound cleanliness and still you had the issue return. Simply, the truth is, in case the nail matrix is not removed entirely, the offending edge will grow back.

If you cut off your toe nails too short or too curved, the edge pierces the skin fold around the nail. The tissue swells up and becomes infected, and the edge of the nail continues to be trapped and inflammation never really heals. That physical advantage never comes back, and is not eliminated by soaking or antibiotics, so the infection gets worse over time.

When the nail edge is causing trouble, it has to be surgically removed, which is done when the nail is ingrown. The problem with many treatments is though, that removing the edge will usually leave the matrix (the tissue underneath the nail fold that grows the nail) intact. So the same edge reappears and you have the same issue months or years later.

That is why a partial nail avulsive treatment with the matrixectomy is effective. The cause of the problem is removed and the matrix under the nail is treated so this edge will not regrow. It only takes 15-20 minutes under local anaesthetic and you will recover in no time. This thin area of nail, which is supposed to expand that edge, just narrows for good and the rest of the nail grows normally.

Recurrence occurs when the matrix is not treated completely, or if the nails are re-cut incorrectly after healing. We provide straightforward aftercare instructions: keep the nail straight, don’t put pressure on the shoe, and come back in for check-up so we can pick up any nail regrowth early.

Surgical treatment, which is recommended when the ingrown nail returns several times, eliminates the cycle. The first step involves a consultation and evaluation of the ingrowth depth, infection and determining if a simple removal is appropriate or matrix treatment is. The procedure is conducted in our special minor surgery unit located in Savar and Mirpur, and is done with great expertise, which ensures proper growth of your future nail.

Do not suffer from an ongoing toe problem. A professional surgical procedure will provide permanent relief.
